Kre8tif! is an initiative from Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) an agency under the Ministry of Communication & Multimedia Malaysia, with the mandate to develop the creative content industry in Malaysia.
Established in 2009, Kre8tif! has received an overwhelming response from the industry, representing a platform for community and a punctation celebrating the industry for the last ten years. Kre8tif! 2019 carries the theme Moving to Mastery representing the growth of the creative industry in Malaysia, evolving over time, starting from enthusiastic creatives and entrepreneurs, and now through discipline, hard work and skill building, are now gaining mastery as highly skilled professionals, still seeking to continuously improve onwards.
The industry’s evolution has transcended a generation: a major landmark was a short Public Service Announcement (PSA) released on national television in 1983. It was the first Malaysian made animation titled Hikayat Sang Kancil from Filem Negara Malaysia and it still carries the same strong message, compelling narrative and deep nostalgia until today. Just under three decades later, in 2011, “Saladin“ an animated action-adventure series put Malaysia on the world map with its nomination at the 39th International Emmy for the Children & Young People category. In less than a decade since, 2019 bears witness to three feature length animated films for theatrical release; Upin Ipin Keris Siamang Tunggal, BoboiBoy The Movie 2 and Ejen Ali The Movie. The creative companies have grown, its people have moved forwards, the Malaysian industry is proudly showing signs of mastery.
Kre8tif! aims to continuously spark innovation and exploration of major trends across the creative sector via knowledge sharing, technical insights and future shaping trends locally, regionally and internationally. Through this conference, we hope to share what we know and learn from the best, ultimately moving to mastery
